Items Accepted by Microsoft Store Recycling and Trade-In
Microsoft Store recycling accepts Surface laptops, Surface tablets, Surface Pro, Xbox consoles (One, Series S, Series X), Xbox controllers, Microsoft accessories, HoloLens headsets, and any Windows laptop (any brand) for trade-in evaluation. Devices that have no trade-in value are still recycled free.
Where to Drop Off or Mail Items
Drop off at any of the 80+ US Microsoft Store locations or use the free Microsoft Trade-In mail-back program — the system generates a prepaid USPS label after you submit your device details.
How the Microsoft Store Recycling and Trade-In Process Works
- Visit microsoft.com/store/b/trade-in. 2. Enter device model, condition. 3. Receive instant trade-in quote (or free recycling label if no value). 4. Print prepaid label and ship. 5. Trade-in credit appears within 7-14 days as Microsoft Store credit or gift card.
Wipe Data Before Recycling
Sign out of your Microsoft Account, factory reset the device (Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC → Remove everything → Clean data ON for Surface laptops). For Xbox: Settings → System → Console info → Reset console → Remove everything.
