Omaha's hazardous waste facility, Under the Sink, lists electronics among the things it will not take, the city's subsidised bulky drop-off at River City Transfer never mentions them, and Nebraska has no e-waste law, so the useful routes are the ones below: Goodwill Omaha, which wipes and recycles computers of any brand in any condition free at any of its stores through Dell Reconnect and takes flat-screen TVs; Cross Electronic Recycling on N. 72nd Street, which takes anything with a cord and charges $30 for a flat-screen TV and $3 an inch for a tube set; Best Buy's two Omaha stores at $29.99 per TV or monitor; and the city's Fall Cleanup on the four Saturdays of October 2026, which accepts tube and flat-screen televisions free. Every address, hour and rule below was checked against the source on 26 August 2026; wasteline.org and underthesink.org block visitors from outside the US, so their pages were read from Internet Archive copies made between January and May 2026.
Free computer recycling: Goodwill Omaha (Dell Reconnect)
Goodwill Omaha takes computers, monitors, printers, scanners, hard drives, keyboards, mice, speakers, cables and cell phones, any brand, any condition, at any location, and says it wipes the data. Its donation list also accepts flat-screen TVs, CD and DVD players, games consoles, portable stereos, radios and VCRs, but not CRT or tube TVs and not appliances. Omaha stores with donation centres: 15455 Ruggles Street, 201 N. 78th Street, 18125 R Plaza, 8457 W. Center Road, 4805 N. 72nd Street (Benson Park Plaza), 2221 N. 109th Street, 3505 L Street (Stockyard Plaza) and 14227 Hillsdale Circle. The Goodwill Outlet at 4115 S. 72nd Street cannot take donations. GoodBytes, Goodwill's recycled computer store at 8457 W. Center Road, sells the refurbished results, Monday to Saturday 9 am to 7 pm and Sunday 10 am to 6 pm.

The hours come from a November 2024 copy of Cross's site and the fees from a July 2024 copy, because the live site now sits behind a bot check; phone before you load a tube TV, since a 32-inch set costs $96 at the published rate. Scrap Central at 2728 N. 85th Street ((402) 393-6620, Monday to Friday 8 am to 4:45 pm, Saturday 8 am to 11:30 am) buys computer towers, circuit boards and hard drives as scrap and offers a certificate of destruction, but publishes no TV or monitor terms.
City of Omaha Fall Cleanup 2026: free TVs, four Saturdays
Wasteline's Fall Cleanup runs on Saturdays 3, 10, 17 and 24 October 2026, 9 am to 2 pm, each week covering a different section of the city, and its accepted list names "Television (tube and flat screen)" as well as battery-powered equipment with the battery removed, microwaves, furniture, carpet and lumber. Computers and monitors are not on the list. The site list is published at cleanup.wasteline.org once announced; questions to CleanUpOmaha@cityofomaha.org or the hotline, 402-444-4636. The spring round ran from 18 April to 16 May 2026 under the same rules.
What the city and Under the Sink will not take
Omaha's bulky waste programme is a subsidised drop-off, not a pickup: River City Transfer, 6404 S. 60th Street (402-889-8721), Monday to Friday 6 am to 4 pm and Saturday mornings, for Omaha residents with two proofs of residency, a $15 annual fee buying four vouchers, one voucher per car load under two cubic yards, cashless. Its accepted lists cover furniture, mattresses, drywall, countertop appliances and, for a fee, white goods and tyres; electronics, TVs and computers appear on none of its lists, so call 402-731-0414 before taking them. In 2025 the city says 525 households used it over 1,500 times.
Under the Sink, the Douglas and Sarpy County household hazardous waste facility at 4001 S. 120th Street (402-444-7465), is open Wednesday and Friday 9 am to 4:45 pm, Thursday 9 am to 6:15 pm and Saturday by appointment, free apart from $1 per container of latex paint, card only, and it lists electronics under "what's not accepted". It does take lithium and rechargeable batteries, fluorescent tubes and e-cigarettes, which is where the batteries out of your devices should go.

Staples' Omaha store pages could not be reached on the day we checked, so its usual free computer and phone take-back is not confirmed here; ask in store.
What Nebraska law says
Nebraska bans yard waste in season, lead-acid batteries, waste oil, tyres, household appliances and non-household hazardous waste from landfills under Neb. Rev. Stat. 13-2039, and says nothing about electronics; there is no consumer e-waste law, no manufacturer take-back scheme and no landfill ban on TVs or computers. The state environment department has no e-waste page and handed its recycling directory to WasteCap in 2013. Recycling in Omaha is voluntary, which is why the free options are a charity, a city event and retailers rather than a public facility.

- Free: a Fall Cleanup Saturday in October, tube or flat-screen; or Goodwill for a working flat-screen.
- Flat-screen under 50 inches for a fee: Best Buy, $29.99, or Cross, $30, any size.
- Tube TV: Best Buy for $29.99 if it is 31 inches or under; Cross at $3 an inch for anything larger; Goodwill and Under the Sink both refuse them.
Before you drop off a computer or phone
Sign out of Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung accounts, back up, then factory reset; pull or overwrite an old spinning hard drive.
