Louisville residents can recycle up to three electronic items or systems a day free at the Metro Waste Reduction Center, 636 Meriwether Avenue (enter on Bland Street), Tuesday to Saturday, under the city's CyberCycle program, which takes TVs, monitors, computers, printers, microwaves and game consoles. Beyond three items it is $0.60 per lb by appointment. Best Buy and Staples take small items free, Bluegrass Recycle across the river in New Albany takes computers free but no TVs or CRTs, and Kentucky has no state e-waste law, so the city program is the backbone. CyberCycle accepts: cell phones, computers, monitors, television sets, printers, scanners, copiers, disk drives, electronic game systems, digital cameras, microwaves, CD players and CDs, VCRs and VHS tapes, and floppy disks. CD and VHS cases are not accepted. Devices are destroyed and recycled; if a laptop, tablet or phone still works, the Done With IT program takes it for reuse with no limit and no fee, and the Digital Inclusion department takes bulk donations.
The same trip covers other free resident drop-offs: up to four large household items, four passenger tires and one hot tub per day. Trucks with trailers must arrive 15 minutes before closing. The center closes on Derby Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas Day, and shuts early on Oaks Day, Christmas Eve and around Thanksgiving.
Pop-Up Drop-Off events
Metro Public Works runs Pop-Up Drop-Off events around the county, and the electronics page confirms the same three-item CyberCycle allowance applies at them. Dates are on the city's Drop-Off Events page; check it rather than relying on a listing elsewhere.

Older directories list Commonwealth Computer Recycling, Sunset Recycling, National Asset Remarketing and 2trg in Louisville; none could be verified as taking household drop-offs today, and Bing Places now shows Genie Computer Recycling at Commonwealth's old 15th Street address. Call any of them before you go.
What Kentucky law says
Kentucky is not one of the 25 states with an electronics recycling or landfill-ban law. There is no manufacturer take-back obligation and no state fee, which is why Louisville funds CyberCycle itself and caps the free allowance at three items. Businesses are still bound by federal RCRA rules on CRT glass, batteries and mercury components, and the city charges businesses by weight.
TVs in Louisville
- Any TV, CRT included: the Waste Reduction Center, free as one of your three daily items. A large set counts as one item.
- Flat-panel up to 50 inches: Best Buy, fee may apply.
- Bluegrass Recycle will not take TVs or CRT monitors, so do not drive to New Albany with one.
- Working TV: sell or donate it first.
Before you drop off a computer or phone
CyberCycle says items are destroyed and recycled, but it is a municipal drop-off and makes no data-destruction promise, so sign out of Apple, Google, Microsoft and Samsung accounts, back up, then factory reset; pull or overwrite an old spinning hard drive. Is it worth money instead?
A working phone, tablet or laptop under about six years old usually has a buyer, and Louisville's Done With IT program will put a working one to use if you would rather donate.
